Moksha at Kitulgala was designed with sustainability at its core, embracing a non-intrusive architectural approach that preserves the natural landscape while blending seamlessly with its surroundings.
At Moksha, we are committed to fostering a circular economy, where natural resources are maximized, and waste is minimized. Every tree felled during land clearance was repurposed—integrated into construction and transformed into handcrafted on-site furniture, ensuring that nature remains an integral part of our retreat.
Endangered endemic trees like ‘Nedun,’ ‘Kitul,’ ‘Kumbuk,’ and ‘Hora’ were conserved on-site.
To minimize deforestation, we have thoughtfully planted endemic species throughout the property, preserving the natural ecosystem. Every material used in our construction was locally sourced from the Kitulgala area, reflecting our commitment to sustainability while also supporting the local economy of this welcoming community.

At Moksha, freshness begins at the source. Most of the fruits, vegetables, and spices used in our restaurant are grown right here on the property. As our guest, you’re invited to explore our greenhouse or even take part in our farming efforts, experiencing firsthand the care that goes into every ingredient.
For produce that isn’t harvested on-site, we partner with local farmers, ensuring both quality and a positive impact on the community, supporting livelihoods while embracing sustainable practices.
